The Harvard Club of Boston presents Professor Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot Tuesday, March 23, 2010 ~ Main Clubhouse 6:30 pm Reception ~ 7 pm Dinner & Lecture Sara Lawrence-Lightfoot PhD is a MacArthur prize-winning sociologist and the Emily Hargroves Fisher Professor of Education at Harvard University, where she has been on the faculty since 1972. Educator, researcher, author and public intellectual, Lawrence-Lightfoot has written nine books. Balm in Gilead : Journey of a Healer (1988) won the 1988 Christopher Award, given for “literary merit and humanitarian achievement”. The Art and Science of Portraiture (1997) documents Lawrence-Lightfoot’s pioneering approach to social science methodology. Her newest book, The Third Chapter: Risk, Passion, and Adventure in the Twenty-Five Years After 50, was published in January 2009. In The Third Chapter,Lawrence-Lightfoot suggests that the years between fifty and seventy-five can be the most transforming time in our lives, just as long as we have the courage to challenge ageist stereotypes, the creativity to resist the old cultural norms, the curiosity to be open to new learning, and the adventurous spirit to pursue new passions and experience.
